Growing techniques
A heavy planting density per hectare: 7000 vines:
- i.e. 470,000 vines to prune in winter, one by one …;
- we thin the leaves in June on the rising sun side to aerate the grapes and avoid premature rotting; we obtain perfect levels of ripeness;
- we remove the excess bunches if necessary; this is known as bunch thinning and helps us to achieve better concentration.
- we use a controlled natural grassing technique, which means that our vineyards contain a variety of flowers when the vines grow in June. We apply a non-residual herbicide that burns the external part; if the weather is favourable (damp), the soil is covered again 3 weeks later.
- as members of the ARIANE Network, we treat the vines only when necessary. We have a weather station and a software package that works out which day is “D” Day for spraying.
